Police have arrested the in-laws of a New York Times executive following his shooting death in California, USA. The 77-year-old couple faces multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder.
A report by the British media outlet BBC states that the victim, Jonathan McKinsey, was 40 years old. He served as the Director of Engineering for the Games Player Experience division at The New York Times.
Jonathan was found with gunshot wounds on Saturday afternoon (local time) in a parking area outside the Dublin Sports Grounds, located approximately 56 kilometers east of San Francisco. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by police.
Eyewitnesses told local media outlet KGO-TV that they heard several consecutive gunshots. Shortly thereafter, they went to the scene and found Jonathan lying on the ground.
An eyewitness named Asad Rajawi stated that he saw Jonathan lying on the ground, noting that his head and chest were bloodied.
Asad’s daughter claimed that after the shooting, the suspect couple was seen walking away from the scene calmly.
Police reported that a police officer passing by the area detained the couple within minutes of the incident; they were subsequently arrested.
They have been charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, grossly negligent discharge of a firearm, and child endangerment.
However, police have not yet disclosed details regarding the reason behind Jonathan McKinsey’s killing or the potential motive for the murder.
The two accused are scheduled to make their formal court appearance next Wednesday. Further information regarding the motive and the circumstances surrounding the incident may emerge during the subsequent legal proceedings.
