The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has released the identities of two US soldiers killed in an attack in Jordan linked to Iran.
The deceased are Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan (25), a resident of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Isabella Gonzalez (19), a resident of Carrollton, Texas.
A Pentagon statement noted that they were serving in the ongoing US operation against the armed group ISIL (ISIS) in the Middle East.
On Saturday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the two soldiers were killed while countering an attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles and drones in Jordan.
According to US military data, a total of 17 US soldiers have been killed since the onset of the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
This incident highlights that even though US troops are not stationed directly on Iranian soil, their deployment across various Middle Eastern countries leaves them vulnerable to drone and missile attacks. Following escalating tensions and the breakdown of diplomatic talks between Iran and the US, American bases and allied nations in the region have also become potential targets for attacks.
