US President Donald Trump has warned China regarding assistance to Iran. During a meeting in Washington with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he cautioned against providing any direct or indirect support to Iran. Chinese Ambassador to the US David Perdue stated that Beijing has given assurances to Washington on this matter.
Perdue said that Trump described any form of Chinese assistance to Iran as completely unacceptable. He claimed that on Thursday, China assured the US that it is not providing such aid to Iran and has already taken steps to address the issue.
However, at the same time, an Iranian official told Reuters that China had assured Iran it would not curtail economic, political, or military ties with Tehran, despite pressure from Trump.
According to Reuters, there are allegations that China is preparing to supply man-portable air-defense missiles to Iran and is assisting Tehran in selling oil to China while bypassing sanctions.
Meanwhile, China’s state news agency Xinhua reported that Xi Jinping has called on the US and Iran to return to negotiations to end the conflict. However, Jinping made no public comments regarding the allegations of Chinese military aid to Iran.
