New York City official Zohran Mamdani and his wife have received death threats due to his stance against Israel. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mamdani revealed that the threats were issued after he publicly commented on the war between Israel and Gaza. However, he did not specify who issued the threats.
He said, “It is difficult to prepare oneself for death threats. But when you are ready to stand up for everyone’s rights, you must also be prepared to face the consequences.”
Mamdani added that he had faced similar threats while serving as a member of the New York State Legislature. He noted that he was threatened at that time for criticizing US military aid to Israel and opposing the killing of Palestinian civilians.
Mamdani stated that these threats began before he assumed office and have continued since he took up his role. He mentioned that his wife has also been subjected to criticism and threats because of his position on the Israel-Gaza issue.
In a separate interview with The New York Times, referring to the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Netanyahu, Mamdani said that legal proceedings against Netanyahu should commence in The Hague.
Later, Mamdani clarified that New York City does not possess the independent legal authority to execute an ICC arrest warrant. He stated that the responsibility for taking such action would lie with the US federal government.
