Five people have been killed in a shooting in northern Michigan. Police discovered the body of the suspected gunman following an extensive search operation. The Michigan State Police announced this information in a statement on social media.
Police reported that one person was injured in the incident and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
State police stated that officers were dispatched to a home in Missaukee County, Michigan, around 11:40 a.m. local time after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found three people dead and a fourth person injured.
According to police, the suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman. He had fled the scene before officers arrived, prompting a massive manhunt. During the search, investigators discovered the body of another person at a second location.
Later, officers located Hickman’s vehicle near a wooded area close to Whitlock Lake. Police stated that both Hickman and another individual were found dead at the scene.
In the police statement, Lieutenant Ashley Miller said, “This incident is heartbreaking for the community and extremely difficult for the investigating officers involved.”
Police have not released the names, ages, or genders of the deceased.
