Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued an open letter addressed to ordinary US voters, calling for the ousting of President Donald Trump’s administration. Tehran alleges in the letter that the Trump administration has been consistently misleading the American public and telling “big lies” regarding the ongoing war, the nuclear program, and control over the Strait of Hormuz. Published on Tuesday, the letter urges US citizens to “wake up” and “wrest power back from corrupt politicians.” Al Jazeera reported this news.
The IRGC released this letter just five weeks before the upcoming US midterm elections and the day after marking seven months since the start of the Iran-US-Israel conflict. Addressed to the “honorable people of the United States,” the lengthy letter notes that the current US political system is in a state of extreme weakness and that now is the right time for change. It claims that Iran has achieved ultimate victory in the war; despite launching thousands of bombs and missiles, the US and Israel failed to destroy Iran’s nuclear program or achieve any of their stated objectives.
The letter clarifies that the people of both Iran and the US are suffering due to the unscrupulous politicians in the White House. Explaining the widely used Iranian slogan “Down with America,” the IRGC stated that the slogan is not directed at the ordinary American people but is a call for the downfall of the scheming ruling clique occupying the White House.
At a press conference on Tuesday, IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi labeled Trump a “confirmed liar.” He stated that US citizens remain completely in the dark about the devastating consequences of this military campaign. Dismissing claims of full US control over the Strait of Hormuz, Mohebbi stated that if the US manages to pass a small vessel through the strait under the cover of darkness—at great risk and immense cost—it does not mean the strait has become open. Earlier, in a speech at the United Nations, Trump had threatened to completely destroy Iran and spoke of the possibility of a deal only after the November elections. In response, Tehran adopted this new strategy of communicating directly with the American people, targeting Washington’s domestic politics.
