Iran may launch surprise attacks against Gulf states and Israel. The country is reportedly planning potential strikes using missiles and drones. Intelligence officials issued this warning last Thursday. (Source: The Jerusalem Post)
This warning from intelligence agencies comes in the wake of a heated telephone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Iran issue.
According to reports, the possibility of a potential preemptive strike by Iran emerged following an assessment of the current situation conducted by Israel’s top military leadership and the country’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz.
A ceasefire has been in effect between Iran and the United States since April 8. However, the two nations have been unable to reach an agreement on any terms. Neither side is willing to back down from its respective demands. Meanwhile, a heated dispute reportedly took place between Netanyahu and Trump regarding the future course of action concerning Iran.
Security officials have stated that Tehran may take drastic measures before the United States and Israel conclude that diplomatic channels are no longer effective. These officials noted that the country could launch a surprise attack.
Against this backdrop—and under the direction of Major General Hidai Zilberman and other senior Israeli officials—the country’s Air Force and the IDF Operations Directorate are continuing discussions with U.S. officials to further enhance their readiness. Intelligence sharing between officials of both nations, as well as a review of unusual Iranian activities, is also underway.
Additionally, the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, conducted security briefings with the country’s military commanders as part of an overall assessment of the situation.
Zamir also held discussions with U.S. officials regarding how to respond in the event of a surprise attack launched by Iran.
A military source indicated that a thorough review was conducted following joint U.S.-Israeli operations aimed at detecting, identifying, and countering various threats emanating from Iran.
The outcome of this review has served to further strengthen joint operations between the IDF and U.S. forces.
