General Alexus Grynkewich, head of the US European Command (EUCOM), has warned that the US Navy might be unable to defend Israel against a potential Iranian missile attack without additional weapons and military equipment. This information was reported by The Washington Post.
He stated that due to the ongoing conflict with Iran, US Navy military supplies are becoming insufficient to meet demands. Consequently, the US might find itself unable to protect its interests across the Middle East.
According to the report, General Grynkewich privately informed senior Pentagon officials this week that unless another US Navy destroyer is deployed to the region, Washington might have to choose between defending Israel and prioritizing the security of its own territory.
The report notes that tensions and escalating conflict between the US and Iran have placed significant strain on US military capabilities. This has raised concerns within the Pentagon regarding the ability to uphold security commitments across multiple fronts with limited military resources.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that security alert levels have been raised further due to fears that Iran might launch a ballistic missile attack, even if Tel Aviv does not directly participate in a potential large-scale US military operation.
The report adds that the ongoing war has placed excessive pressure on US military assets. Simultaneously, Washington is striving to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in vital waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, where security risks have risen due to escalating regional tensions in recent months.
Since the conflict intensified, the US has deployed additional naval and air forces to the Middle East. It has also continued efforts—in coordination with allies—to prevent further escalation and secure maritime trade routes critical to the global energy supply.
