Two separate attacks took place on Thursday at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Three Saudi nationals were killed, and several others—including citizens of various countries—were injured. Some of the injured are in critical condition.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) disclosed this information in a statement on Friday.
The statement noted that the first attack targeted airport facilities, while the second targeted an aircraft belonging to Saudia, the kingdom’s national airline. The injured were rescued and taken to the hospital. The statement also mentioned that some airport facilities and assets sustained damage.
GACA reported that emergency rescue teams and relevant authorities began working to manage the situation immediately after the attacks. However, the statement did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the attacks or a full assessment of the damage.
Although Saudi Arabia has blamed the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group for the attacks in its primary reports, the identity of the attackers was not confirmed in the cited statement.
