At least 78 people have been killed and over 215 injured in devastating Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past two days. Amidst this situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed deep frustration with Washington, accusing it of failing to assist Kyiv and showing a lack of genuine will to end the war. He made these remarks shortly after a massive loss of life occurred when Russian airstrikes hit two passenger buses in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk. Reuters reported this news.
At least 35 people were killed and another 20 injured in the airstrike that directly hit the passenger buses in Kramatorsk. Local Governor Vadym Filashkin stated that Russia is deliberately targeting civilians. The previous day, a Russian missile strike on a five-story building in the city of Pryluky killed 22 people, while numerous other casualties were reported in Kyiv and other cities. While inspecting the wreckage, Zelenskyy noted that 78 lives had been lost across the country in just two days.
Following the attacks, President Zelenskyy issued an emotional statement strongly criticizing remarks made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio had previously claimed that the war was stuck in a “dangerous stalemate.” Responding to this, Zelenskyy asked, “Where is the stalemate here? It is not a stalemate; it is actually the US’s unwillingness to provide aid.” He expressed indignation, pointing out the extreme hypocrisy of citing a diplomatic stalemate while top US officials—including special envoy Jared Kushner—were simultaneously negotiating future economic relations with Moscow regarding US investments in the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
