Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen launched two drones towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh, but the Saudi-led coalition intercepted and shot them down. News agencies reported that the coalition announced early Saturday morning that it had intercepted the two drones targeting Riyadh in mid-air. Two days prior, the coalition had reported shooting down six ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the Taif and Yanbu areas.
Subsequently, the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks on a target in Riyadh and a Saudi Aramco facility in Yanbu. Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified in recent weeks amidst rising tensions across Yemen and the Middle East. These attacks have targeted various cities and energy infrastructure. Such recent assaults have raised concerns regarding Saudi Arabia’s energy exports and regional shipping lanes, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
