Russia has claimed that the provocative activities of the US ambassador in Dhaka, Peter Haas, have a direct relationship with the ongoing unstable situation in Bangladesh. The country thinks that if the result of the vote is not satisfactory to the United States, there may be an attempt to destabilize Bangladesh like the Arab Spring.

Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said these things in a statement given on December 15. This information was revealed in a report by the Russian state news agency TASS.

According to the report, Maria Zakharova said in a statement, “On December 12-13, anti-government protesters blocked roads, set fire to vehicles and clashed with the police in Bangladesh. We note the direct relationship between these events and the provocative activities of Western diplomatic missions in Dhaka, especially US Ambassador Peter Haas.

Maria Zakharova fears that in the coming weeks various sanctions may be imposed against the Bangladesh government, which are “inconvenient for Western powers”. He said, ‘The important parts of the industrial sector of Bangladesh may be hit; Along with this, action may be taken against some government officials for obstructing the democratic verdict of the citizens in the parliamentary elections held on January 7, 2024.

Maria Zakharova also said that it is unlikely that the United States will refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Bangladesh. At the end of the statement, he said, “But we definitely think that despite all the conspiracies of the outside forces, the issue of Bangladesh’s statehood will be resolved by the friendly people of the country and not by any other force.”
