UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over the renewed conflict in the Middle East. He has called upon the United States and Iran to observe a ceasefire and return to the negotiating table.
In New York, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated, “The Secretary-General has been concerned for some time that if the parties do not return to negotiations, the conflict could escalate further—and it appears that is precisely what is happening now.”
He added, “These are not positive developments, and the Secretary-General wants to ensure that the parties observe a ceasefire and return to diplomatic initiatives, including mediation efforts led by Pakistan, Qatar, and others.”
