According to Colombian media reports, Deicy was sworn in as a senator last Monday in the capital, Bogotá, representing the leftist political coalition ‘Historic Pact for Colombia.’
Deicy is currently 33 years old. She left journalism to enter the adult film industry in 2017, where she was known by the stage name ‘Amaranta Hank.’ Within a couple of years, she walked away from stardom to pursue grassroots politics, eventually becoming a full-time politician. She is now fighting to ensure social security rights for those involved in the production of adult films.
Deicy was elected senator from Colombia’s Norte de Santander region last March and took her oath of office on Monday. She believes that workers in the adult entertainment industry need legal protections to shield them from exploitation by companies and agencies.
In a campaign video during her run for the Senate, Deicy stated, “Due to misinformation, prejudice, and hypocrisy, the state has failed to provide protection for the women involved in this industry.” “No one had taken the initiative to bring this industry under a regulatory framework.”
Deicy faced criticism; detractors argued that someone who had left the adult film industry should not run for elected office. Deicy refused to accept this view and hit back at her critics. She posed a counter-question: why shouldn’t women involved in the adult entertainment industry be able to aspire to hold an elected public office?
