Pele is arguably one of the topmost soccer players of all time. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Três Corações, Brazil on October 23, 1940, he began his career playing for a youth team called Bauru Atletico Clube. He was given the surname” Pelé” by his academy schoolteacher at the time, who thought he bore a striking resemblance to goalkeeper Bilé, of the original professional team.

At age 15, Pelé was signed by Santos, a professional team in Brazil. He snappily made an impact, leading the team to several championships and getting the league’s top scorer. In 1958, at just 17 years of age, Pelé became the youngest ever World Cup champion when Brazil won the tournament….

Pelé went on to have a long and successful career, playing for Santos until 1974 and also for the New York Cosmos from – 1975 to 1977. He won three World Cup titles & is the only player to have scored over 1,000 goals in his – Career. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Pelé was a vocal advocate for social justice & was named a United Nations ambassador for ecology and the environment.

In 1999, Pelé was named the Player of the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, solidifying his legacy as one of the Topmost soccer players of all time. He’s still actively involved in the sport, working as an minister for the Brazilian National Team and representing various organizations.
