The European Union has joined the US sanctions on Iran

The European Union (EU) has officially joined ‘Operation Economic Outcast,’ a US initiative designed to exert economic pressure on Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the development in a post on the social media platform X. Al Jazeera reported the news.

Welcoming the EU’s move, Scott Bessent wrote that Washington appreciates this firm and swift stance. He further noted that the US stands with its allies to ensure Iran cannot leverage the global financial system to fund its nuclear ambitions, weapons programs, and affiliated groups. The world is sending a clear message to Tehran today that this operation will not cease until its final financial links are severed.

Earlier, in a statement issued late last month, the EU had announced that it would continue to work closely with the US, the G7, and other international partners to maintain pressure on Iran and restore regional stability.
