Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that US military personnel were killed in a missile and drone attack on Kuwait’s Ali Al-Salem Air Base. They also reported the destruction of several drones during the attack.
In a statement, the IRGC said its ground forces launched a coordinated missile and drone strike targeting the headquarters and living quarters of the US commander stationed at the base. “Several” US military personnel were killed as a result.
The IRGC further claimed that the attack ignited fires in a drone hangar and on a drone deployment ramp. The organization stated that several drones involved in operations against Iran were destroyed during the incident.
The statement noted that the attack on the Kuwaiti base was carried out simultaneously with strikes on US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Erbil.
Iran claims this counter-attack was in retaliation for a US strike on a wedding ceremony in Sirik (in the south) on Tuesday. That strike left four people dead and over 50 injured; reports indicated that a child was among the fatalities.
In a message addressed to the people of Kuwait, the IRGC stated that their attack was not aimed at the Kuwaiti population but rather at the US military presence in the country. They also called for the withdrawal of US troops from Kuwait.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had struck various IRGC targets within Iran.
Following the US announcement, Iranian media reported explosions in Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak.
