Trump’s Phone Call with the Emir of Qatar

US President Donald Trump spoke by phone on Friday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, regarding efforts to prevent the outbreak of a conflict between the United States and Iran. This discussion between the two leaders comes amid intensifying diplomatic activity aimed at averting a new escalation of hostilities, reports AFP.

Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain active at various levels in an effort to de-escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran. As part of these efforts, a senior Iranian diplomat has also held talks with the foreign ministers of several Gulf nations.

Concerns have emerged that President Trump might launch a military strike against Iran—a possibility that has gained traction following significant setbacks in the US midterm elections. Consequently, the importance of diplomatic initiatives to prevent the onset of a new war has grown.

In a statement, the Amiri Diwan—the office of the Emir of Qatar—noted that during the call, the two leaders discussed Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to mediate and ease regional tensions.

The statement further added that Emir Sheikh Tamim emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue to resolve disputes and prevent any further deterioration of the situation. He also urged that a diplomatic path be pursued to address and resolve the crisis.
