Approximately 600 former senior Israeli defense and security officials have called for direct intervention by US President Donald Trump to halt the expansion of illegal Jewish settlements and the associated violence in occupied Palestinian territories.

They issued a stern warning to Trump in a letter regarding this matter.

The signatories include prominent former figures from Israel’s security agencies, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the diplomatic corps. They have sharply criticized the Israeli government’s provocative policies regarding new settlements and land seizures.

According to these former officials, failure to address settler violence poses a major threat to Israel’s own security. Furthermore, it would undermine efforts to expand Donald Trump’s historic Abraham Accords.

It is worth noting that the Abraham Accords sought to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab nations while bypassing the Palestinian issue.

Diplomatic analysts believe that these former Israeli military officials took this step to influence the White House. Their primary objective is to curb the dangerous deterioration of the situation currently unfolding in the West Bank.

This move aligns with internal warnings within Israel’s defense establishment. A segment of the military had previously warned that settlers were overstepping boundaries by effectively usurping the role of the army. By conducting operations in the name of the Israeli military, they are placing ordinary soldiers deployed in the field at grave risk.
