They looked just like teenagers newly in love. Pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were seen sharing kisses and playful moments while sitting on the grass during a romantic picnic date in Santa Barbara, California. British tabloids are filled with such photos; seeing them, anyone might label the pair ‘lovebirds.’ Having recently stepped away from politics, Trudeau is enjoying life on his own terms.

He traveled to the US to watch a match there—even on the day his own country was playing in the World Cup—because his girlfriend, Katy Perry, was performing at the opening ceremony. Newly released photos from Saturday show the 41-year-old ‘Dark Horse’ singer sharing intimate, loving moments with the former Canadian Prime Minister; at times they were nuzzling affectionately, and at others, showering each other with gentle kisses. Earlier in the day, they picked up lunch in Katy Perry’s vintage Moke car. Afterward, they headed to a picturesque park, spread out a red-and-white checkered blanket, and spent some private, relaxing time together.

They made their relationship official last week by walking the red carpet together at the premiere of Katy Perry’s concert film in New York City. Once again, the couple made no secret of their affection in public. They were accompanied by Katy Perry’s mother, Mary; Perry’s five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove; and another child—believed to be Hadrien, the 12-year-old youngest son of Trudeau and his estranged wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. Despite the presence of family members, Katy and Trudeau managed to carve out some quiet time for themselves. At one point, Trudeau was lying on the grass laughing when Katy leaned over and kissed him. At the picnic, Katy Perry was seen wearing a white top, striped linen trousers, and flip-flops. Later, she removed her footwear and walked barefoot on the grass. Although she initially wore a hat, she took it off, revealing her dark hair tied up in a bun. Meanwhile, Trudeau was dressed in an olive-green T-shirt and navy cargo shorts; he, too, spent time barefoot on the grass. However, the time wasn’t spent solely on romance; Perry and Trudeau also spent time at the park’s playground with their family members.

“The love of my life”
Just days before these images surfaced, Katy Perry referred to Justin Trudeau as the “love of her life.” She had previously been married to comedian Russell Brand. Later, she entered into a long-term relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, and the two became engaged; however, that relationship ended last June. Perry spoke openly about her relationship after walking the red carpet with Trudeau at the New York City premiere of the concert film Katy Perry: The LifeTimes Tour on June 8. In an interview with People magazine, she said, “I am deeply in love. Honestly, that show took place after I had met the love of my life. So, I felt a great sense of stability.” She added, “I’m a bit like a rainbow kite—I love flying high and want to touch the universe. But sometimes, I need an anchor to keep me grounded. Having finally found that anchor, I feel complete now.”

Finding a new life after difficult times
Katy Perry says she is very happy with her current life. In her words, every day is an extraordinary journey—an opportunity to transform, become a better person, do the right thing, and set an example for her family, society, and the world. She remarked, “In many aspects of my life, I am now a much more grounded and down-to-earth person.” Perry recalls the year 2025—the year her engagement to Orlando Bloom ended. It was one of the most difficult times of her life. She says, “I went through a really tough period. There were days that were truly hard. But I didn’t stop. Because I had made a promise to my fans, to my daughter, and to myself. And ultimately, I made it through. Everyone has to walk through their own fire. And if you find yourself walking through hell, just keep walking—because heaven surely awaits on the other side.”

Newfound Confidence in Her Forties
Katy Perry, who has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2013, speaks about embracing life in her forties with a fresh perspective. In her words, the twenties are a time of emotion; the thirties are about sorting through those emotions; and the forties are the time to transform those emotions into strength rather than fearing them. She notes that sorrow, grief, and pain do not discriminate—everyone faces them in their own way. Perry expresses her hope that her daughter, Daisy Dove, will grow up to be an even better person than she is.

Explaining why she brings her daughter along on her recent ‘Lifetimes’ tour, she says, “It is always an amazing feeling when I can take my daughter to work with me. When mothers can be their most authentic and confident selves, it sets the best example for their children. I simply want to present myself to my beautiful daughter as a woman who is strong, grounded, intelligent, humorous, and a bit quirky—but above all, real.”
She further added that, as parents, we set an example for our children. Our only hope is that they grow up to be even better people than we are and discover the best versions of themselves. Finally, praising her daughter’s confidence, Perry remarked that she is a formidable force; she tells her exactly what she is thinking.
