US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has warned that the United States is prepared to launch military strikes against Iran once again if a diplomatic agreement with the country is not reached. He made these remarks today, Saturday, in Singapore.

Hegseth’s comments come at a time when negotiators from Washington and Tehran are striving to bridge significant differences standing in the way of a potential settlement.

Speaking during his visit to Singapore, Hegseth stated, “We possess the capability to launch military operations again, should it become necessary.” He emphasized that there is absolutely no room for doubt regarding the United States’ capabilities.

Hegseth delivered a speech today at the Shangri-La Dialogue—Asia’s premier defense and security conference. He asserted that, despite being engaged in a conflict with Iran, the United States has not turned its back on the Asia-Pacific region.

The Pentagon chief remarked, “We are capable of doing two things at once. We are further strengthening our defense industrial base to ensure that, very soon, we can produce double, triple, or even quadruple the current volume of munitions. This will ensure we have sufficient funds and equipment for all our planned military operations across various parts of the globe.”

Describing President Trump as “patient,” the Pentagon chief noted that the President seeks an agreement that would guarantee Iran is never able to develop nuclear weapons.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people across Iran and Lebanon. Furthermore, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has driven up fuel prices, placing significant strain on the global economy.

A 60-day ceasefire between the two nations went into effect in early April. If a new agreement is reached, the ceasefire will be extended for an additional 60 days. This extension would provide negotiators with the necessary time to deliberate on and finalize a comprehensive agreement aimed at bringing a permanent end to the conflict.
