On Saturday (May 30), Iran carried out a ballistic missile attack on an airbase in Kuwait. Several U.S. citizens were injured in the incident. Additionally, two MQ-9 Reaper drones sustained damage. This attack occurred precisely when final negotiations regarding a potential agreement between Iran and the United States were underway. This information comes courtesy of Bloomberg. An individual familiar with the attack, who requested anonymity, stated that Kuwait’s air defense system successfully intercepted the Fateh-110 missiles. However, debris from the missiles fell onto the Ali Al Salem Air Base.

The source indicated that at least five individuals—including contractors and active-duty military personnel—sustained minor injuries. Reports suggest that one Reaper drone was destroyed, while the other was severely damaged. Each of the drones was valued at approximately $30 million. However, U.S. Central Command declined to offer immediate comment on the matter. This attack in Kuwait took place at a time when the United States is considering an agreement to extend a fragile ceasefire that has been in effect since April 8.

On May 29, U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a social media post that he was prepared to make a “final decision” regarding a preliminary agreement. In connection with this, Trump held a meeting in the Situation Room on Friday that lasted nearly two hours. However, the meeting ultimately concluded without a decision being reached. The Center for Strategic and International Studies notes that the Fateh-110 is a short-range ballistic missile capable of carrying a 500-kilogram warhead.
