Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down from her position as President Donald Trump’s Director of National Intelligence (DNI), effective June 30; she made this decision shortly after it was confirmed that her husband, Abraham Williams, has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. Williams—a Hawaii-based cinematographer who has been married to Gabbard since 2015—has generally remained out of the political spotlight himself, despite assisting with his wife’s election campaigns and media-related projects.
Tulsi Gabbard announced her departure from the role of Director of National Intelligence—under President Donald Trump—immediately following the revelation that her husband, Abraham Williams, is suffering from a rare and aggressive type of bone cancer. Gabbard stated that she will resign, effective June 30, 2026, in order to remain by her husband’s side and support him throughout the entire duration of his medical treatment.
Gabbard posted her letter of resignation on the ‘X’ platform (formerly Twitter), in which she noted:
“I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He will be facing significant challenges over the coming weeks and months. In this critical moment, I must temporarily step aside from my duties in public service to stand by his side and provide him with my full support in this difficult battle.”
