World Record Set by 99-Year-Old Standing on an Airplane Wing

A 99-year-old woman named Helga Duffy has set a world record by performing the daring feat of standing on the wing of an airplane while in flight—an activity known as “wing walking.” She has become the oldest woman in the world to complete a wing walk. Through this achievement, she has not only earned a place in the Guinness World Records but has also raised funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. This information was reported by the BBC. Helga carried out this adventurous act at the RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England. Following the feat, officials from Guinness World Records presented her with a certificate. Helga, the eldest of seven siblings, remarked that her father would surely have been proud of this accomplishment had he been alive today.

Helga was inspired to take on this challenge after seeing 97-year-old Betty Bromage perform a similar feat. She shared that her father always expected the best from his children, and she has consistently strived to live up to those expectations; she believes he would have been proud of his eldest child. Two of Helga’s nieces, Jackie Rose and Julie Price, were present to witness the event. They describe Helga as an independent and outspoken woman.

Jackie noted that Helga had long expressed a desire to do something extraordinary, wanting to show everyone that, even at 99, she remains the same person she has always been. This initiative by Helga was also deeply moving for them, as the very charity she is supporting—the Wiltshire Air Ambulance—was the service that transported their mother during the final journey of her life. Sam Conway, a representative for the charity, praised Helga’s bravery and hailed her as a legend. Helga Duffy’s achievement serves as a remarkable example that age is no barrier to courage or the pursuit of new endeavors.
