Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the United Nations General Assembly session on Wednesday (September 23). However, within minutes of his speech beginning, the sole US representative present in the hall walked out.
At the outset of his address, Pezeshkian raised the issue of US attacks on Iran. Citing a deadly attack on an Iranian primary school early in the war, he stated that Iranians have been victims of terrorism.
The Iranian President also clarified his country’s stance on its nuclear program.
He stated that the goal of acquiring nuclear technology is not to threaten any society with weapons; rather, Iran intends to utilize this technology for the nation’s progress and development.
Pezeshkian reiterated, “We seek nuclear technology for progress, not to threaten societies with weaponry.” He also emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination with other nations to ensure security.
The strategic Strait of Hormuz also featured prominently in his speech. The Iranian President declared that no country would be permitted to use the Strait of Hormuz to launch aggression against Iran.
He asserted that Iran would never bow down or yield. In his words, instead of relying on coercion and the projection of power, nations across the globe must work together to find a path toward genuine peace and stability.
Pezeshkian further noted that, in the current climate, ensuring security requires mutual cooperation and dialogue. He called upon world leaders to work collectively to establish “true peace and stability.”
The Iranian President’s remarks come at a time when tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high.
