This information was reported in a BBC live update on Wednesday (July 8). Trump stated that US forces had struck Iran “very hard” the previous night and that a major attack would be launched again on Wednesday night if necessary.

Regarding Iran, Trump said, “Last night, we hit them very hard—very hard.” He added, “We will likely hit them hard again tonight.” Trump remarked, “I’ve given them a bit of a heads-up. The US President further stated, “As far as I recall, the truce is over. Making a deal with them is a waste of time; they are liars.” Trump alleged, “These are wicked and sick people. They are like cancer, and you know what you have to do—you have to cut out the cancer right at the start.” The BBC report noted that the US launched a “powerful” attack on Iran on Tuesday in retaliation for attacks on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported striking more than 80 targets in Iran.

These targets included over 60 small vessels belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran retaliated following the US attack. Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its naval and air forces had jointly conducted a missile and drone operation, striking 85 locations at key US military installations.
