US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran will be struck ‘harder’ following its attack on US forces in Jordan. Speaking by phone to Fox News journalist Trey Yingst on Monday, Trump said, “We will hit them hard. There will be a response.”
Regarding the attack by Tehran in Jordan, Trump noted that one Iranian missile managed to penetrate US air defense systems during the overnight strike. However, US forces did not intercept it because it was not heading toward a specific target. According to Trump, the other missiles were successfully intercepted. He also expressed a glimmer of hope regarding potential talks with Iran, stating, “They really want to have a meeting. But I don’t know if they can be trusted regarding any deal.” Trump added that the US sanctions imposed on Iran are being strictly enforced.
Meanwhile, regional intelligence sources have warned that further economic pressure could trigger fresh protests and instability within Iran.
The value of the Iranian rial has also plummeted to a historic low; currently, one US dollar trades for approximately 2.1 million Iranian rials.
A US official told Fox News that although Iran fired at least eight ballistic missiles targeting US forces in Jordan on Sunday, there was no significant damage.
Previously, the US launched an attack targeting the missile launch systems of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). US officials stated that the strike was carried out on Larak Island.
US forces reported that the attack was launched after intelligence indicated the IRGC was preparing to fire rockets to lay new sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
