The Temple of Heaven is an ancient temple located in Beijing, the capital of China. It is over 600 years old. Today, Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump—currently visiting China—toured the temple. He was accompanied by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

UNESCO has designated this Beijing temple as a World Heritage Site. According to the organization, the temple was constructed around 1420—during the latter part of China’s Ming Dynasty. It was historically used for royal sacrificial rituals and for offering prayers for bountiful harvests.

Prior to this visit, Trump had toured the Temple of Heaven in 2017, during a trip to Beijing while serving his first term as President of the United States.

Now, nearly nine years later, Trump has returned to China on a state visit as the U.S. President. This morning, Trump held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Beijing’s historic ‘Great Hall of the People.’ Following the meeting, the two world leaders visited the Temple of Heaven together.

Upon arriving at the temple grounds, journalists asked Trump how his meeting with Xi Jinping had gone.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that, in response, the U.S. President gave a brief reply: “Great.”

When asked whether the two leaders had discussed the issue of Taiwan, Trump offered no response.
