Prominent Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi has been released in a prisoner exchange under the terms of a ceasefire in Gaza. He was released from Israel’s Ofer prison on Wednesday night. In 2017, this young woman came to the discussion by slapping an Israeli soldier. Since then, she has been hailed as a Palestinian heroine. 22-year-old Ahed Tamimi was detained by Israeli forces on November 6 in the occupied West Bank city of Nabi Saleh. Israeli forces said he was arrested on charges of inciting terrorism. A week before her arrest, Ahed Tamimi’s father was arrested by Israeli forces.

Ahed Tamimi was one of the 30 Palestinians that Israel released in the sixth round on Wednesday. Hamas has been pressing Israel for his release from the beginning. When he arrived in Ramallah after his release yesterday, everyone welcomed him. On the same day, Hamas released a total of 16 hostages, including four Thai nationals. Among them are two Israeli-Russian women.

Ahed Tamimi is widely discussed because of her protest against the liberation of Palestinians and the Israeli occupation. In 2017, Tamimi slapped one of the soldiers when some Israeli soldiers tried to force their way into her home. At that time he was only 16 years old. Ahed Tamimi became popular overnight when the video of Israeli army slapping went viral on social media. As a result, Israeli forces arrested Tamimi a few days later. He was released in July 2018 after eight months in prison.

Currently, Ahed Tamimi’s father, Bassem Al Tamimi, is also imprisoned in an Israeli prison. This time, when Ahed was released, the Israeli authorities threatened to kill her father if she spoke to the media after her release. Still, this Palestinian heroine is fearlessly speaking in front of the media.
