Splendor Multiplayer Card-Based Board Game
Splendor is a popular multiplayer card-based board game designed by Marc André and published by Space Cowboys. It is set in the Renaissance period and revolves around players competing as wealthy merchants in a quest to build their gemstone empires.
In Splendor, players take turns collecting gems, buying development cards, and earning prestige points. The game is played on a central board that represents a marketplace, where players can acquire gem tokens of different colors. These gem tokens are used to purchase development cards from a set of available cards, each of which grants permanent gem bonuses and prestige points.
The development cards are divided into three tiers, with higher-tier cards providing more significant bonuses and higher point values. Some cards also have a noble tile associated with them, which can be claimed by a player if they meet the requirements listed on the tile.
The objective of the game is to accumulate the most prestige points by purchasing development cards and attracting the attention of visiting nobles. The game ends when a player reaches a certain number of prestige points, typically 15, triggering the final round. At the end of that round the player with the most prestige points is declared the winner.
Splendor is praised for its simple yet strategic gameplay, elegant mechanics, and high-quality components. It can be played with 2 to 4 players & games usually last around 30 minutes, making it accessible and enjoyable for both casual and seasoned gamers.
