Secret meeting of Trump s national security team at Camp David

Top national security officials for U.S. President Donald Trump held a closed-door meeting regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran and the Saudi-Houthi clash in Yemen. The meeting took place at Camp David on Friday. U.S. media outlet Axios reported that the meeting had not been previously scheduled.

Citing three U.S. officials, Axios reported that Vice President JD Vance presided over the hours-long secret meeting. Participants included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain.

A U.S. official stated that decisions were reached on several matters and extensive discussions were held regarding various issues.

With negotiations with Iran stalled, Trump is considering resuming large-scale military operations. A Wall Street Journal report indicated that the Pentagon is preparing to deploy a third aircraft carrier strike group and additional Marine troops to the Middle East. This could involve the deployment of up to 10,000 additional troops.

Citing U.S. officials, the report stated that these forces could arrive in the Middle East by the end of November.

Previously, Trump had said that if no agreement were reached, he might decide to launch further attacks on Iran following the midterm elections scheduled for early November.
