At least 37 people have been killed in a Russian Drone strike on an ammunition depot near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack took place overnight into Friday.
On Saturday, Kyiv region Governor Tymur Tkachenko stated on the messaging app Telegram, “Unfortunately, the death toll in the Bucha district has risen to 37. Rescue teams and all relevant services are continuing their work at the scene of this tragedy.”
Ukrainian authorities reported today that a series of massive explosions occurred at the ammunition depot in the town of Myla—located in the western suburbs of Kyiv—immediately following the strike.
Tkachenko stated that at least 50 residential buildings were damaged in the attack. The strike ignited a fierce fire that subsequently spread to nearby homes and a restaurant.
Approximately 400 people are being safely evacuated from the affected area.
Dozens of people have reportedly been injured in the incident. Tkachenko confirmed that Taras Didych, the mayor of Dmytrivska village, was among the fatalities.
According to Ukrainian prosecutors, the depot is believed to have stored “explosive materials.” They have announced the launch of an investigation into criminal negligence.
The investigation will primarily focus on the legality of storing explosive products and equipment at the site. Authorities will also examine whether the company possessed the “necessary permits and approvals.” The name of the company has not been disclosed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that “explosions occurred” following the attack. While he did not provide specific details about the site, he confirmed that criminal proceedings would be initiated.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched at least two missiles and 267 drones at Ukraine between late Friday night and Saturday morning. Officials reported that, in addition to the attack on the warehouse, three other people were killed in separate Russian attacks early Saturday. The victims included a two-year-old child in Kyiv and a 14-year-old girl in a suburb outside the capital.
Meanwhile, local authorities stated on Telegram that at least three people were killed and nine injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Belgorod region. Officials added that three of the injured are in critical condition.
Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol in the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula, reported that another person was killed and three others were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the city.
In recent months, both Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range attacks against each other. These strikes increasingly target civilian infrastructure—such as warehouses, oil facilities, and port installations—resulting in a significant rise in civilian casualties.
