Russia may cut diplomatic ties with the US if Russian assets are seized over the Ukraine war. On Friday (December 22), the Interfax news agency reported this information about Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
Sergey Ryabkov said that the United States should not operate under illusions. Russia has diplomatic relations with that country.
Moscow said that relations with the United States had dropped below zero because of the US military and financial aid to Ukraine, which is fighting against Russia. The United States is one of Kiev’s allies in the nearly 22-month-long war. So far, the country has provided financial assistance of 110 billion dollars to Ukraine. Another $60 billion bailout proposal is stuck in the US Congress.
Ryabkov said that Russia will not take steps to break diplomatic relations with the United States first. However, relationship rifts can occur due to various reasons. Such as confiscation of assets, increase in military support or many other reasons. I won’t make any negative predictions here. But Moscow is ready for any situation.
The Ukraine war started in February 2022 when Russia sent troops to Ukraine. The United States and the West continue to support Kiev in this war against Russia. Several Western leaders have even offered to give Ukraine $300 billion seized by Russia as a result of this war.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday that such a move would be a serious blow to the global financial system. They will never allow a country that seizes Russia’s wealth to have peace. It will even look at what kind of assets could be seized from the West in retaliation.
