Indian police have solved the mystery behind the murder of an assistant professor from Delhi University in just three days. According to a report by the Indian media outlet NDTV, a couple was arrested for traveling approximately 1,400 kilometers from Bardhaman, West Bengal, to Delhi to commit the crime.

The deceased, Debasmita Paul, was an assistant professor at Shivaji College, affiliated with Delhi University. Her body was recovered last Wednesday from Satyam Apartments in the Vasudhara Enclave area of East Delhi.
Subsequently, following multiple police operations, Ramprasad Das and his wife, Banashree Das, were arrested in Bardhaman, West Bengal. Police sources stated that the couple’s minor son was also detained.

Killers Caught on CCTV
Investigators revealed that the accused were residents of Bardhaman who came to Delhi under the pretext of meeting Debasmita Paul. CCTV footage shows them entering Debasmita Paul’s residence in a private car on the day of the incident, wearing masks. To avoid suspicion, they had brought their minor son along.
Police claim that because they were acquaintances, they were able to enter the flat easily. They then killed Debasmita Paul using a weapon they had brought with them.

About 30 minutes after the incident, they changed their clothes, left the building, and fled the scene in a car that was waiting outside. Police later gathered crucial information by questioning the driver of that car.

Raids Across Four States
As part of the investigation, police examined the details of approximately 200 people who had entered the apartment complex that day and compiled a list of 13 suspects. Seven police teams conducted raids across four states and questioned over a hundred individuals. Ultimately, the accused couple was arrested in Bardhaman.

Plot to Seize Property
Preliminary police investigations revealed that Debasmita Paul had inherited property worth several crore rupees in West Bengal following her maternal grandfather’s death. The accused couple were tenants on that property and had long been attempting to take possession of it. However, Debasmita Paul was pressuring them to vacate the premises. Police believe the couple planned the murder with the intention of seizing the property. Sister’s suspicion leads to discovery of murder
Police stated that last Thursday, Debasmita’s sister, Debratri, informed the police station that she had been unable to contact her sister for a long time.
The flat’s door was locked from the outside. After receiving no response despite repeated calls, she broke open the door and entered, finding Debasmita Paul’s bloodied body lying there.

Investigators reported signs of a severe head injury and found the veins in her wrist slit. However, as the jewelry and cash in the house remained intact, there were no signs of robbery.
Following the incident, the Delhi Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. It is reported that transit remand will be sought to bring the arrested couple to Delhi for interrogation.
