Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy—who is accused of killing their three children in Massachusetts, USA—has spoken on television for the first time. In an interview with the program 60 Minutes—conducted after the jury failed to reach a verdict in the case—he discussed the pain of losing his children, his ex-wife’s mental state, and the various conspiracy theories circulating on social media regarding the incident.
In January 2023, their three children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—were killed by Lindsay Clancy. During the trial, the defense argued that Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and should not be held criminally responsible for her actions.
On September 4, the judge declared a mistrial after the jury became deadlocked. Of the 12 jurors, 11 were in favor of not holding Lindsay criminally responsible, while one juror agreed with the prosecution’s argument that Lindsay understood what she was doing.
In the interview, Patrick stated that he first noticed Lindsay’s sleep issues and anxiety in late 2022. Later, as her mental health deteriorated, she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. The killing of the children occurred just 17 days after her discharge from the hospital.
Patrick revealed that he has forgiven Lindsay for the incident, believing that mental illness played a significant role in her actions. He said he had done everything he could under the circumstances at the time and now lives every day with the consequences of that event.
Patrick also spoke about his own mental state following the deaths of his children, admitting that at one point, he had lost the will to live. He later moved to New York and is attempting to gradually rebuild his life while cherishing the memories of his children.
Patrick’s current wife, Rachel Danis, was also present during the interview. He spoke about his process of coping with grief and preserving the memory of his children.
Various conspiracy theories regarding Patrick also circulated on social media in the wake of the case; these narratives attempted to link him in some way to his children’s deaths. Patrick described these claims as detrimental to his children’s memory and a distraction from the issues that truly matter. In his view, the focus of the conversation should be on perinatal and postpartum mental health.
Both Lindsay and Patrick have filed separate civil lawsuits against the medical professionals and institutions involved in their children’s medical and mental health care. Lindsay has alleged medical negligence, while Patrick is seeking damages for the deaths of their children.
Meanwhile, it remains unknown whether prosecutors will pursue a retrial against Lindsay following the mistrial. She is currently being held at a hospital in Massachusetts.
