Madonna and Charli XCX are two of the biggest stars in pop music. There had been talk of a rift between them, but it appears that conflict has been resolved. On Tuesday, the two were spotted smoking cigarettes together while seated in the front row at the Saint Laurent Men’s show during Paris Fashion Week. Although rumors of a feud had circulated recently, many believe this joint appearance has put those speculations to rest; the Daily Mail reported the story. Both singers looked stunning in stylish lace outfits. They were seen puffing on cigarettes while posing for photographers. Rumors of a conflict had arisen following the release of Charli XCX’s new single, “Rock Music.” The song features a much-discussed line: “I think the dancefloor is dead, so now we are making rock music.” In response, Madonna posted a cryptic message on Instagram, writing, “If you think the dancefloor is dead, then maybe you’re playing the wrong music.”

However, no animosity was evident between them in reality. While seated in the front row, Madonna was seen hugging Charli and kissing her on the cheek. Madonna wore a long-sleeved red lace mini-dress, paired with pink-and-black high heels and stylish sunglasses. Meanwhile, Charli XCX turned heads in a red leather outfit featuring a lace design on the bodice; she paired it with black tights and tall, stylish heels.

At the after-party following the show, the two were also seen dancing together behind the DJ booth. They enjoyed themselves to various tracks, including Madonna’s hit songs “Hung Up” and “Thief of Hearts.” Charli XCX is set to release her seventh album, Music, Fashion, Film, next month. Fans have already heard two singles from the album: “Rock Music” and “SS26.” Explaining her stance on the controversial lyrics of “Rock Music,” Charli told Rolling Stone magazine that the line speaks to her relationship with the Brat album and her personal experiences surrounding it. She added, “My husband [George Daniel of the band The 1975] runs a dance music label. Recently, incredible dance and electronic music has been released by artists like Slayyyter, underscores, and PinkPantheress. Dance music is in a great place right now.” Charli emphasized that her new album is not a rock album and that she does not want to confine her music to any specific genre.

Charli has expressed her admiration for Madonna in the past as well. Praising Madonna’s 1991 tour documentary Truth or Dare, she said, “I love Truth or Dare. It has amazing choreography. And Madonna is simply unique.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Charli admitted that she is currently going through the most difficult mental period of her life. Her album Brat achieved massive success in 2024 and became a focal point of cultural conversation. However, she revealed that she is suffering from mental strain due to the long Brat tour and her complex relationship with performing on stage. She told Rolling Stone, “I am trying to do things that are good for me now, because my anxiety had reached a level where it started affecting me physically. It is not possible to go on living like this.”
