Iran has launched an attack on a U.S. airbase in the Middle East in an act of retaliation. Fars News Agency—a media outlet closely affiliated with the state—stated that the target of this attack was the specific airbase from which a strike had previously been launched against a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island, located in Iran’s eastern Hormozgan province. The report indicates that the Aerospace Force of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) carried out this retaliatory strike against the airbase approximately one hour after the U.S. military had attacked the communications tower on Sirik Island in Hormozgan province. It was from this very airbase that the attack on Iran had originated.

The IRGC’s strike successfully destroyed the designated targets. However, the IRGC did not disclose the specific location of the airbase in question. Earlier reports indicated that air defense systems had been activated in Kuwait and warning sirens sounded across the country—developments signaling a further escalation of the regional security situation.
