Yemen’s Houthi rebels are capturing territory one area after another. Having seized several key locations—including Mocha—they now aim to take control of the entire country. Mohammed Al-Basha, a Yemeni security and intelligence analyst, stated that the Iran-backed Houthis view the use of force as the most effective means to achieve their objectives. He noted that they now seek sole control over all of Yemen. Al Jazeera Online reported this development.
Their primary goal is to secure formal recognition as the country’s government and to take control of all assets, airspace, and seaports. Even if they gain control of the entire country, they are expected to demand massive reparations from Riyadh. Al-Basha further noted that although Iran helped build the group, Tehran does not exercise sole or absolute control over the Houthis; the group is capable of sustaining itself through its own strength, independent of Iran.
