The death toll from severe flooding in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers has risen to 734. Local media reported this information on Sunday morning, citing the country’s National Disaster Management Authority. At least 2,498 people, including 589 foreign tourists, remain missing.
According to government data, the force of the floodwaters has swept many bodies hundreds of kilometers downstream.
The highest number of bodies—259—was recovered from Chitwan district. Among the missing are 933 workers from a hydroelectric project and 85 members of the Nepali army and police.
Approximately 20,000 army and police personnel are conducting rescue operations in the affected areas. With the help of helicopters and special teams, 8,186 people have been rescued alive so far, including 279 workers who were trapped in a hydroelectric project tunnel. The recovered unidentified bodies have been sent to 21 hospitals across various districts for identification.
