An American female tourist has died after falling approximately 1,000 feet from a steep section of the Dolomites mountain range in Italy. According to a report by Fox News, 36-year-old Michelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva slipped and fell on October 17 while searching for a vantage point to take photographs. Michelle, a resident of the Miami area in Florida, was in Italy on vacation with her family.
On the day of the incident, while hiking at an altitude of about 9,000 feet near an alpine pass known as Forcella Pordoi, she strayed from the designated trail. Local media reported that she lost her footing while looking for a spot to take pictures and fell, with her sister witnessing the tragedy. Rescue team records indicate that she slipped in an unprotected area of the mountain.
Following calls from witnesses, members of the Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue team, along with an air ambulance, arrived quickly at the scene. However, medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival. Her body was subsequently recovered by helicopter and handed over to local authorities, while her family members were transported to the nearby town of Canazei.
Recently, there has been significant criticism online regarding the overcrowding of tourists in Italy’s Dolomites and the growing trend of prioritizing photography over simply enjoying the mountain environment.
