Vance’s Four-Point Take Following a Disastrous Defeat

The Republican Party has suffered a crushing defeat in the U.S. midterm elections. In the aftermath, party leaders have begun trading blame. The scale of this defeat has left the Republicans cornered, prompting a shift in tone toward self-criticism. Ultimately, the party of former U.S. President Donald Trump has paid a heavy price for the problems stemming from the war with Iran.

The Iran War: The Real Reason for Defeat – U.S. Vice President-elect JD Vance has dropped a bombshell regarding the election. In a lengthy, 614-word, and explosive post on the social media platform X, he argues—in no uncertain terms—that the Iran war is the true cause of the Republican collapse. He notes that this reason is clear to almost everyone, and that Trump himself hinted at it on election night. While Trump has consistently maintained that the attack on Iran was the right decision, Vance’s candid stance is being viewed as a calculated move to distance his own political future—ahead of the 2028 presidential election—from Trump’s unpopular war policy.

Citing poll data, Vance points out that Republican voter turnout was not the issue. The core problem was that a significant portion of those who voted for the Trump-Vance ticket in 2024 shifted their support to the Democrats this time around. Voters were deeply frustrated by the ongoing war with Iran, soaring inflation, runaway fuel prices, and the current state of U.S.-Israel relations. Addressing the loss of control over the Senate, Vance writes: “If someone wants to argue that this war was worth it—and that losing the Senate for the next six years is a fair price to pay—they are free to do so; at least that would be honest.” Regardless of where future discussions may lead, he insists that the war must be openly acknowledged as the primary reason for the defeat. To those who were angry and had issued warnings early on, Vance wrote: “You were right; you warned us before anyone else did.” He argued that this anger must now be channeled toward electing Republicans who share this realistic perspective.

Vance’s four-point plan: To restore the trust of disaffected voters, Vance proposed a four-point agenda: ending wars, focusing on controlling the cost of living and inflation, prioritizing America above all else, and reshaping Washington’s relationship with Israel.

Vance informed the White House before publishing the post, and Trump responded positively. Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s eldest son, even shared the post, writing that every word Vance said was “100 percent true.” Later, while visiting a ballroom, Trump acknowledged that Vance’s assessment was largely accurate—noting, for instance, the rise in oil prices—but he reaffirmed his firm stance on continuing the fight to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
