At least six people have been killed in a massive Russian air strike on Ukraine. Parts of the capital, Kyiv, have been left without power following the attack. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that they had launched a major offensive targeting Ukraine’s communication and energy infrastructure. Al Jazeera reported this news.
Following the attack, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain in safe shelters. DTEK, a private Ukrainian power supplier, reported that electricity services were disrupted in several areas of the capital due to the strikes. Three people were killed in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, while another three died in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Missile attacks also struck Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Chernihiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alleged that they had received no prior warning from Western allies. Accusing Moscow of violating the ceasefire announced by Trump, he stated that Russia had deliberately targeted energy infrastructure covered by the truce.
Through this action, Moscow has demonstrated open disregard for Washington. Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have shot down a total of 902 Ukrainian drones, including 180 that were heading toward the capital overnight. One person was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Saratov region.
