China’s Ambassador to the UN, Sun Lei, stated that the United States has once again pushed the world toward a dangerous situation through its attacks on Iran. He made these remarks during an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday evening.
A heated exchange took place between the Chinese ambassador and US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz. Waltz alleged that insufficient measures were being taken to prevent the flow of certain goods—which have dual-use capabilities for both civilian and military purposes—to Iran and the Houthis in Yemen.
He stated that Iran, and in some instances certain Chinese companies and entities, had violated the UN arms embargo, yet little action had been taken against them.
In response, Sun Lei dismissed the allegations as baseless. He further added that China maintains strict controls over the export of such goods.
