A regional source has confirmed that peace talks between the United States and Iran have resumed, aimed at achieving a permanent cessation of hostilities and reaching a formal agreement. This information was reported in a live broadcast by CNN on Tuesday (June 2).
Additionally, US President Donald Trump stated that discussions between the United States and Iran are proceeding at a rapid pace. He expressed confidence that, within the coming week, Washington and Tehran would reach an agreement to extend their ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to ABC News, Trump remarked, “I believe we will reach a deal within the next week.”
Earlier—just yesterday, Monday—Iran had announced the suspension of its ongoing talks with the United States. The country subsequently clarified that negotiations would not resume until Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza ceased.
Following this announcement by Iran, Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US news outlet Axios reported that a heated exchange of words took place between the two leaders.
Amidst escalating Israeli aggression in Lebanon, Trump reportedly erupted in anger at Netanyahu during their phone conversation. Their discussion reportedly involved the use of profanity.
During the call, Trump reportedly called Netanyahu a “lunatic.” He also appears to have temporarily put the brakes on Israel’s plans to launch an attack on Beirut.
Trump reportedly told Netanyahu over the phone, “You are a total lunatic. If it weren’t for me, you’d be rotting in jail. I am the one saving you. Everyone hates you now. And because of all this, everyone hates Israel now, too.”
