US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has stated that an agreement with Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is likely to be reached within the next day or two. This information was reported in Al Jazeera’s live coverage.
In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Bessent said, “We are in discussions with the Iranians. I believe a deal could be reached today or tomorrow that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and allow the situation to return to a more normal state.”
During the interview, he was asked whether Iran would be able to collect tolls from ships passing through the strait as part of the agreement. He replied that the potential deal would ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Bessent stated, “It will be a matter of completely free movement. Although the situation was somewhat uncertain over the past few days, we have seen that many ships are still safely passing through the strait.”
