Tehran has condemned the US attack that took place in the Bandar Abbas area of Iran. Ismail Baghai, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued this condemnation in a statement today, Thursday.

In the same statement, Iran also expressed its solidarity with Oman. This gesture comes after US President Donald Trump made threatening remarks regarding Oman just hours before the US attack in Bandar Abbas—despite the fact that the United States and Oman share decades-long military and economic ties.

Trump issued a warning, stating, “No one will be able to take control of this strait (of Hormuz).”

He further added, “This (the Strait of Hormuz) is international waters. Oman, too, must conduct itself just like everyone else. Otherwise, we will have to take action against them. If they understand this, then all the better.”

The US military launched a fresh round of attacks in Iran today, Thursday. Washington claims that this strike was aimed at an operation being conducted by Iranian drones, as the operation had posed a threat to US forces and commercial shipping navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

The attack occurred just hours after Trump denied reports regarding a potential diplomatic settlement with Iran.

A US official stated that they had shot down four Iranian attack drones and launched a strike targeting a ground control station in Bandar Abbas. They claimed that Iran was preparing to launch another drone from that specific ground control station.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that, in retaliation for the US attack, they had struck a US military base. However, they did not disclose the specific location of the base. Kuwait subsequently reported that it had intercepted incoming missile and drone attacks, though it did not specify the origin of the strikes.

This latest escalation once again places the ongoing, albeit fragile, truce between the United States and Iran in jeopardy. This truce has been in effect since early April.
