U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that, despite the uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire caused by new U.S. attacks in Iran, the possibility of an agreement between the two nations still exists. Rubio made these remarks to journalists today, Tuesday, during a visit to Jaipur, India.

Speaking to reporters during his official visit to the city of Jaipur, he said, “Some discussions took place in Qatar today. So, we want to see if any progress can be made. I believe extensive discussions are currently underway between the two sides regarding specific points within the preliminary document. Therefore, it may take a few days for it to be finalized.”

Rubio further added, “The President (Donald Trump) has expressed his interest in reaching an agreement. He will either secure a good deal, or there will be no deal at all.”

Yesterday, Monday—amidst a ceasefire that has held for over six weeks—the United States launched a fresh series of airstrikes in Iran. The U.S. military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a press release that these strikes targeted Iranian missile bases as well as speedboats engaged in attempts to lay mines in maritime shipping lanes.

These attacks were carried out just as Iran’s top negotiators arrived in Doha, Qatar, to participate in a new round of talks aimed at bringing an end to the conflict that has persisted for several months.

Against the backdrop of this conflict, Iran has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz—a vital maritime artery for global energy exports.

In this context, Marco Rubio asserted, “The Strait of Hormuz must remain open.” He further emphasized, “One way or another, this shipping lane will remain open. Therefore, keeping it open is a necessity. What is currently transpiring there is unlawful and unsustainable for the global community. It is unacceptable.”
