The US media outlet Axios has published an explosive report regarding Taiwan. Citing several close advisors to US President Donald Trump, the news outlet reported this story on Sunday (May 17).

The report states that these advisors have expressed concern that the most significant tangible outcome of recent meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping could be an increased risk of Chinese military action against Taiwan within the next five years.

The advisors fear that such a scenario could severely disrupt the supply of critical chips essential to the US artificial intelligence (AI) sector. According to them, Trump was pleased by the lavish arrangements made during his visit to Beijing and the special diplomatic importance accorded to him by Xi. However, the message conveyed behind the scenes was far sterner.

One advisor told Axios that Xi essentially sought to convey the message that China is no longer merely an “emerging power,” but is now an equal peer to the United States—and that Taiwan is an integral part of China.

The advisor further added that, following this visit, the likelihood of the Taiwan issue becoming the focal point of a major conflict within the next five years has increased.

In his words, the United States is not yet economically prepared for such a contingency. In particular, the country remains far from achieving self-sufficiency in the semiconductor supply chain—a critical component for the AI ​​industry.

However, following the summit with Xi, several US corporate executives have praised Trump. They believe that Trump played a constructive role by taking a firm stance on the issues of Iran and Venezuela, as well as through his efforts to open up markets.

Additionally, some CEOs are hopeful that their companies may be able to secure business licenses in China.

Trump returned home last Friday following the conclusion of his visit to China. Following his meeting with Xi, the US President issued a warning against Taiwan formally declaring independence from China.

Speaking to Fox News on Friday, Trump stated, “I have no intention of granting independence to anyone.”

China claims Taiwan as part of its own territory and has not ruled out the possibility of seizing it by force, should it become necessary.
