A drone attack has occurred at a nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The incident resulted in a fire breaking out at the facility. Citing the country’s authorities, Dawn—an influential Pakistani newspaper—reported this information on Sunday (May 17).
Abu Dhabi authorities stated that the attack resulted in no casualties and had no impact on radiation levels.
In a social media post, the Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that the drone attack caused a fire in a generator located just outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region. Abu Dhabi authorities responded swiftly to the incident and brought the situation under control.
The post further noted that the incident posed no radiological risk and had no impact on the plant’s operations. The country’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that the fire did not affect the power plant’s safety or critical systems, and that all units remain operational as normal.
However, no information has yet been released regarding the identity of those responsible for carrying out this latest attack in the country. Although a ceasefire between the United States and Iran has been in effect since April 8, the UAE has continued to face a series of attacks. The UAE has consistently held Iran responsible for these attacks. The country’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation has confirmed that the fire had no impact on the power plant’s safety or critical systems, and that all units remain operational as normal.
However, no statement has yet been made regarding who carried out this latest attack in the country.
