Despite a fragile ceasefire, peace negotiations between the United States and Iran remain stalled. To advance these discussions, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, arrived in Tehran yesterday, Saturday. Iranian media outlets reported this information.

The country’s semi-official news agency, Tasnim News Agency, stated: “Pakistan has been making continuous efforts to advance discussions and establish peace in the region. As part of these efforts, Mohsin Naqvi arrived in the Islamic Republic of Iran today (Saturday) for a two-day official visit.”

Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, welcomed him upon his arrival. Just a few days prior, Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, had visited Tehran; Naqvi’s visit follows closely on the heels of that trip.

Pakistan is actively mediating the peace talks between Iran and the United States. Just last month, they hosted a crucial meeting involving representatives from both sides.

The conflict began on February 28, when US and Israeli forces launched attacks on Iran. The fighting largely subsided following the declaration of a ceasefire on April 9.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, stated that they had received certain messages from Washington. These messages suggest that the administration of US President Donald Trump is keen to continue the negotiations.

Earlier, Trump had rejected a counter-proposal submitted by Iran. He issued a warning, stating that the ceasefire was currently on “life support.” Subsequently, last Tuesday, Iran’s chief negotiator and Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, asserted that Washington ought to accept the peace proposal put forward by Tehran; failure to do so, he warned, would result in “failure” for them.

In a post shared on social media, Ghalibaf remarked: “There is no alternative but to accept the 14-point proposal, which upholds the rights of the Iranian people. Pursuing any other path will yield no results; on the contrary, it will lead only to a succession of failures.”
